Cardcaptor Kero!

Pattern: Kero-chan found on Craftster
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft Mango
Hook: Size H
Notions: 6mm safety eyes, DMC 310 and B5200 threads, white and yellow felt
Start/Finish: 3/24 & 30-31/2013

As you can tell from the background, Cardcaptor is one of my fave anime series. It's adorable! I would love to make a Souppy amigurumi! I think you could do it with this pattern, but elongate the arms to become front legs and change the ears to a cat's ears ;)

I love the wings on the back. I used a blanket stitch on the edges. Cute! Wow, just realized that my little Kero-chan needs a tail. O_o" So I'm off to stitch that up ;)

A Crafty Saturday!

My friend Kristina and I met up on Saturday at our local university's library to do some crafting together for our Artists' Alley table that we will have at Mobi-Con this year in May. The library has some lovely group study rooms and since it was the weekend and hardly anyone was using them, we grabbed one of the rooms for ourselves.

We worked on a few buttons with Kristina's new button machine, which is a lot harder than it should be since she purchased the hand grip machine...........talk about needing some arm strength to make the buttons!!!

After that, she helped me make some Scrabble tile pendants using epoxy stickers. I purchased the kit online and I just love using the tiles for pendants!

I had bought some graphic templates online designed for Scrabble tiles ;) I just need to buy some more bails to glue on and make them into pendant charms!

I hope Kristina and I can do this again in the future! It was a fun several hours of crafting and chit chatting >___<

Weekly amigurumi!

I've been busy this week with small amigurumi patterns ;) Here's the line-up:

Patterns: Tiny Onigiri from Ami Amour, Ideal Spheres by Ms. Premise Conclusions, and Neko by Nimoe
Yarn: Onigiris (Caron Simply Soft Party Sparkle Snow), Pokemon ball (Caron Simply Soft Red and White), Yellow Sphere (I Love This Yarn Sun Yellow), and Neko (Caron Simply Soft White)
Hook Size: all of them are size H except yellow sphere....possibly size G
Notions: 6mm safety eyes, black, pink, red, and white felt and Chinese coin charm
Start/Finish: 3/25-29/2013

I love the 'Ideal Sphere' pattern because you can do anything with it. I made the Pokemon ball with that pattern by using the 16 rounds pattern and changing colors at the end of round 8. I am going to make the ball into a keychain charm ;)

The yellow sphere uses the same 16 rounds pattern. I am going to make it into a Golden Snitch from HP. I just need to either crochet some wings......assuming I can do that without messing it up.........or I'll make some out of felt. Again I plan on making it into a keychain charm!

Until next time ^____^

Friday Surprise......No, Really!

So I came home tonight from work and asked if anything had come in the mail. Imagine my surprise when I look on the kitchen counter and see a plastic Easter egg addressed to me.

Yes, take a minute.......just digest that sentence for a moment......you read that correctly, a plastic Easter egg in the mail.

How did it even get here in one piece? Perhaps the USPS mail personnel in CA are more accepting of crazy packages in the mail, but I don't know if I could get away with sending something like that at my local post office in AL.

Tape torn, label precariously hanging onto the egg for all its $2.07 worth! Yep, I'm still totally amazed that this even got to me!

Cracking open this little plastic egg!!!..................wonder what sorts of goodies are inside............

Some mini KitKat bars, two spring-themed erasers and a cute little message from my friend Amanda.

Let's just say this little 'gem' of a package brightened up my day! Who says that small packages aren't the best? They are fabulous!

Thank you darling!!! Makes me want to think of something I can send in a crazy way through the postal service and see if it gets to its destination!!!

Grumpy Goomba!

Pattern: Goomba by Wolfdreamer
Yarn: I Love This Yarn black and brown and Baby Bee teddy
Hook: Size G
Notions: black and white felt
Start/Finish: 3/23/2013

My sister and I would play Super Mario Bros for hours when we were kids!!! This pattern is perfect for the Nintendo geek in all of us >___<

I went by Hobby Lobby and Walmart and bought some new yarn this morning. Sadly, Hobby Lobby doesn't sell Caron yarn anymore so I headed over to Walmart to buy the colors I could find to make some more amigurumis that I had in mind. For the colors I couldn't find I went by Hobby Lobby to try new brands of yarn.

Unfortunately, Hobby Lobby's substitute for Caron is Yarn Bee, which is a sad thing because it is a 'Made in China' yarn instead of Caron's 'Made in USA' yarn. You would think that an American store would be proud to support a company that is actually making a product in our country.

Hopping off the soapbox....

On the bright side, after watching some tutorials on Planet June's website, I've learned some great techniques for stitching pieces to one another and for closing gaps on pieces without leaving a bump! Woohoo! Thank you Ms. June for the great tutorials!!!

Hope you're having a good weekend!!!

Tree Spirit

Pattern: Kodama-chan by amiguruMEI
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft White
Hook: Size H
Notions: assorted safety eyes
Start/Finish: 3/20-22/2013

Are you a Hayao Miyazaki fan? I know I am! So when I saw this fun pattern for a kodama (aka tree spirit) from Spirited Away I knew I had to stitch it up.

My only disappointment with stitching this up is the fact that I didn't have an assortment of brads to use for the eyes so I opted for using various sizes of safety eyes. AmiguruMEI used various sizes of brads for her Kodama-chan. I'll have to see if my local Hobby Lobby has them in stock so I'll have them in the future for other amigurumi finishes. They are great way to get 'flat' eyes for amigurumi expressions!

I didn't have any stone pebbles to weight down the base of my kodama so I used some round glass tiles that I had bought to use for mini-magnets. Perfect substitute!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend with all your crafting plans!!!

Gaming Geekiness!

Pattern: Kirby by Nerdigurumi
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft Strawberry and Red
Hook: Size H
Notions: Felt in black, dark blue, pink, white, and dark pink
Start/Finish: 3/18-19/2013

I couldn't resist this freebie pattern for a Kirby! Isn't he a cutie? I used felt for all the facial expressions.

Hmm.....I'm off to go through my pattern stash to see what to make next >__<

Until next time ^___^

Baby Unicorn!

My first amigurumi of the month, a cute little baby unicorn!

Pattern: Lil' Baby Unicorn by Little Yarn Friends
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft Strawberry, Watermelon, and White
Hook: Size J
Notions: 12mm safety eyes
Start/Finish: 3/9-10 & 15-16/2013

Super cute! I only wish the pattern had more illustrations on making the mane and tail....if you were wondering why my unicorn didn't have them ;)

Until next time ^_____^

Fairhope Arts & Crafts Fair

Hi! Long time, no blog! I blame being lazy and watching Korean dramas and reading the day away instead of blogging, but also because we have had computer troubles for a couple of weeks now. Luckily, we had someone come out today to work on our service!! Woohoo!

Yesterday, my family and I went to the Arts & Crafts Fair in Fairhope. It was a gorgeous day, which I can attest to with my sunburned arms and neck! You think I would have learned my lesson in sunny weather, but I didn't think it would be that bad.

I didn't take alot of photos, but I did get one of an Asian artist who makes the loveliest silk embroidery pictures!

Sadly, I didn't have the money for any of his artworks! His larger artworks were in the $100s....but so gorgeous! Why no money........LOL I had to buy a hat in a shop......I bought something for a friend......and I stopped in a yarn shop!

Fairhope has a quaint little yarn shop called The Yarn Cottage. I found something I couldn't live without!

Usually when I carry my yarn and supplies around I use a storage bag and the Hello Kitty bag that my friend Bonnie got me for Christmas to carry around my hooks, etc. So when I saw this, I knew it would be perfect!

A cute yarn holder with a removable center area for a skein of yarn, a zipper pocket for supplies, and a section on the other end for hooks.

I love how it clasps shut! And look at that cute little sheep! 'Knit Happy'....or maybe in my case 'Crochet Happy'!!!

All in all, a lovely time in Fairhope..............maybe next year I'll remember to wear some sunscreen!

Until next time ^____^
