6 Year Blog Anniversary and a Contest!

Good afternoon! Yesterday was the 6th anniversary of my blog......time flies so fast. My first blog post was about my grandmother and I picking blueberries in her backyard.  I've gone through many events and adventures since than........not to mention experiments in various crafts!

In honor of my 6th anniversary of blogging, I am doing a special giveaway to my readers. You have until June 30th to comment on this post to be registered to have a chance to win my contest.

Rules:
1) Please leave a comment about my blog: what you like, when you started reading, or even what you'd like to see more of in the future.
AND
2) Please tell me who the hippo amigurumi represents and why his name is a misnomer. (Don't worry if you don't know the answer.....some of you might know it. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it! I might get some fun answers from the non-history/archaeology buffs out there!)

As always, I don't want to write this, but I would hope that no one would enter this contest just to have a chance to win something and you don't regularly read or comment on my blog.

Since the giveaway deadline is June 30th, I won't be posting on my blog until then.

Good luck! Until next time ^___^

William......or Wilhelmina the Hippo!

Pattern: Hippo by Lion Brand
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft Teal Sparkle
Hook: Size H
Notions: 6mm safety eyes
Start/Finish: 6/21/2013

Hi, everyone! I stitched up this little hippo yesterday. I worked on it on my breaks at work and then later on at my friend Candace's house while everyone else was finished up the Dream High drama. I had already watched the drama so I decided to work on my hippo instead ;)

Does anyone know who this little hippo is suppose to represent? Why the hippo has two names suggested? It reminds me of a story that one of my art history professors told us in undergrad.

Until next time ^____^

I ♥ Pig Rabbit

Pattern: Pig Rabbit by Ami Amour
Yarn: Red Heart aran fleck, baby pink, black, and white
Hook: Size G
Notions: 10mm safety eyes and black yarn
Start/Finish: 5/24-31/2013

Ugh, finally! I've being wanting to post about this finish since the beginning of June, but knew that Kristina read my blog and that it would totally ruin the surprise of giving her this pig rabbit for her bday if I posted anything!

(Only bad thing about having a blog................you have to keep secrets if your family/friends read your blog and you have crafted something for a special event!!!)

I quite enjoyed making this pig rabbit for her. It is a character from the K-drama You're Beautiful (as if you didn't know from the previous post). If you haven't watched that drama, you really should.....it's quite cute!

The only thing I didn't like about the ami was the fact that I couldn't find the required color for the bow tie. I think it is too light...............but what can you do if your local craft store doesn't carry it..........ugh.....

Until next time ^____^

K-drama and K-pop Geekiness ♥

Hi, again! So what did I get for Kristina's bday this year? You guys know two things if you read my blog often enough: 1) her fave K-pop band is Shinee and 2) her fave K-drama is You're Beautiful with Jang Geun Suk.

So to add to her collection of Shinee and You're Beautiful:

I made her a Pig Rabbit amigurumi and a Shinee pouch. I purchased the Shinee cell charm online ;) The wrapped gift to the left of the pig rabbit was from Amanda. And guess what? It was a tiny pig rabbit doll ;)

Kristina, I hope you had a great bday party and enjoyed all your geeky gifts!!

Until next time ^___^

More Bday Fun!

Kristina and I have birthdays that are really close to one another so she decided to have a pool party this year.

It was a lot of fun...........I opted for staying in the shade for fear of a really bad sunburn!

I knew Kristina and I were celebrating our bdays together, but I didn't think her family would put my name on the cake too! It was a yummy TCBY ice cream cake, half chocolate and half vanilla. We added a third candle because another one of Kristina's friends was having his birthday that day too.

PRESENTS!

My friend Bonnie didn't have any tags for our presents so she decorated the wrapping paper ;) So geeky!

My haul of gifts! Woohoo! Gift cards to Amazon and Hobby Lobby! Books, notecard set, fruit mochi, and a shell box. My favorite (not that I didn't like all of it!!) was the Ruby Fairy Tales book from Kristina. She knows I love fairy tales and collecting vintage books...........she got me a 1983 edition ;) How beautiful!

Thanks everyone for a great belated bday!

Until next time ^____^

The Artwalk Experience Part 1

Hi, everyone! Kristina and I had a lot of fun yesterday at LODA Artwalk in downtown Mobile. We set up our table across from the Mobile Arts Council/Spot of Tea in the Cathedral Square.

Kristina and I were ill-provided for the sunny weather and hot temps. We will definitely be bringing an umbrella, water/drinks, and a portable fan when we set up next month at the Artwalk.

Here are a few pics of our table!

While making a quick jaunt down Dauphin Street to the Serda's coffee shop, I took a few pics of the crowds and some musicians outside of the A&M peanut shop!

Since almost all the galleries, shops, and restaurants were open for the Artwalk, the air was full of music with everything from those playing jazz music or playing quitars and singing.

Luckily by the time the sun went down, the temps were great with a little breeze. Perfect southern weather!

We didn't do alot of business, but it was a fun experience. I especially loved talking to people who stopped to admire our handicrafts and talk about crocheting. I had several people tell me how their mothers/grandmothers used to crochet or that they were learning or knew how to crochet too.

Thanks to everyone who bought something and/or stopped to chit chat with us!

If you guys saw anything you liked but didn't purchase yesterday, please see our Etsy shop on the sidebar ^__^ If you don't see something that you liked in our Etsy shop, but it was on our table, please let me know and I'll add it for you to purchase >___<

Until next time ^____^

Artwalk Mobile - Tomorrow (6/14)

Hi, everyone! Kristina and I will be at Loda downtown tomorrow night. We hope to have our Cherry Blossom Cute booth set up across from the Spot of Tea cafe. So please come out and join us.

I will have some new amigurumis for sale and Kristina will have some fun bottle cap jewelry for sale.

Hope to see some of our customers from Mobi-con and maybe meet some new ones!

Until next time :)

Bday Fun!

Woohoo! Another year older! And lots of fun goodies!

First off, from my family:

Gift cards to Michael's! Some people don't care much for gift cards for bdays and holidays, but I love them because my family definitely knows what I like. And the 'Keep Calm and Craft On' tin is super cute!

While my aunt was in FL on vacation she found a perfect brooch in an antique shop to add to my collection. Lovely!

From my mom and sister, an Amazon Kindle Fire....

 >_____<  Totally awesome! I think my sister might steal it..........

After opening all those gifts, I was able to open a panda package from Amanda! It actually arrived on my birthday ;) Great postal service!!!

All the packages had little notes from Amanda! I love the wrapping paper......

Everything unwrapped...................lots and lots of goodies!

As you guys know, Amanda is an amazing crocheter! She made me a skinny scarf in two colors of blue. It is actually perfect for summer. I know what you're thinking.....a scarf in summer, but it is really light. It is great for a cold office ;)

What is this.....?!

A very tiny bunny brooch..........it's so.............*SQUEAL*................cuteness overload!

Amanda had packaged it in a British flag eyeglass case. The bunny was inside a blue sparkly drawstring bag that she had crocheted.

I actually wore the brooch to work today and got quite alot of compliments on it.  >____<

Almond soap...........smells so good. She knows how much my sister and I love almond soap. (As evident from our last trip to CA when we were exclaiming over the almond hand soap at the Getty........)

Notepad (can never have too many!), a cross stitch magazine and a fun bunny mug...........I will definitely be using that on lazy weekends!

Small skeins of yarn! Sparkly yarn..............O_o" Love it!

And lastly, zodiac star paper........*squeal*........hours of fun making zodiac stars for crafting projects ;)

As always, thank you everyone for a wonderful birthday!

Until next time ^____^

Start/Finish: 6/7 & 9/2013

My finish this weekend! Woohoo! I hope to finish up an octopus ami tonight.....I went by a Walmart closer to my house and they actually had the sparkle color of Caron that I needed! I ran out of yarn just when I had one more tentacle to crochet...ugh....

Gaming Geekiness Round 2 and Amigurumi at Work

Pattern: Kirby by Nerdigurumi
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft Strawberry and Red
Hook: Size H
Notions: Felt in black, dark blue, pink, white, and dark pink
Start/Finish: 6/6/2013

Another Kirby finish! This time I used one of the little felt hearts I had in my stash for his tongue. This is definitely a quick project, but I will say it always makes me smile when I make a Kirby........how can you not smile with a Kirby around?

In other news, Crystal Panda is promoting a great and incredibly GEEKY idea, Bring Your Ami To Work Friday.

So if you are fellow ami crafter, go wild and bring your ami to work and take a few pics of them! Head over to Amanda's facebook page and post them!

Who knows? You might get a fun reaction from your coworkers, possibly a million compliments, or even a few coworkers asking to learn how to crochet!!! And hey, everyone deserves to smile on a Friday after a long work week........why not give them something to smile about with adorable ami  >___<

Hmmm.............Amanda is right, though! What ami to bring to work? Oh, my..........I might have to think about this.....

Until next time ^_____^

Meet Ellie

Pattern: Elephant by Lion Brand
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft Grey Heather
Hook: Size H
Notions: 10mm safety eyes
Start/Finish: 6/5/2013

After showing off  my ami creation last night, Amanda from Crystal Panda named my darling elephant Ellie. I love how tiny she is compared to her trunk! I wish I had taken a picture of her tail........it's like Dumbo's tail! So little ^____^ I hope to dress Ellie up with a bow of some sort........*cough cough* (an excuse to visit the craft shop!!)

I was intimidated by this pattern at first because it requires you to turn your work inside out as if you were going to stuff and 'finish' it.........but that's not the case. It makes you turn your work, stuff, and continue to sc for another 18 rows to make the trunk. I've never been comfortable with stitching after turning my work inside out so I'm glad that this pattern made me do it!

Until next time ^____^

To Tame a Kitty...

....you must have a tiny green bear........no, really........you must have one of these! Works every time!

Pattern: Alien Chibi Bear by Nerdigurumi
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft Limelight
Hook: Size H
Notions: 10mm safety eyes and DMC 310 thread
Start/Finish: 6/4/2013

Who is the adorable kitty in the picture? She is our lovely calico named Bella. And no, she isn't named for a popular character you might have heard of. She is our adopted kitty. Once upon a time, she lived with a great family who had to move away to Hawaii. They couldn't afford to take all their pets.....and when we saw a picture of Bella, we decided to adopt her as our own ;)

Until next time ^____^

Mango the Roly Poly Kitty!

Pattern: Roly Poly Cat by Puchitomato
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft Mango and White
Hook: Size F and G
Notions: 10mm safety eyes and DMC 310 thread
Start/Finish: 6/1-2/2013

Introducing Mango! I had fun making this little kitty.....mostly because the yarn colors just make me smile. Is that odd? Perhaps, but I think some colors just make you smile because they are so vibrant.

The only thing I changed with this pattern was the tail. It called for a long tail stitched in a magic ring, 6 sc around for about 12 rows. My fingers/wrists weren't making it easy for me with the F hook so I decided to make the tail by using a magic ring, 12 sc around for 5 rows....and viola! big bobtail and happy wrists! ^__^

On a side note, my mother wanted to steal my yarn! She loved the mango color too............gotta hide my yarn!

Until next time ^_____^

Tiny Whale of a Tale!

Pattern: Tiny Whale by Planet June
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft Party Royal Sparkle
Hook: Size E
Notions: 6mm safety eyes
Start/Finish: 6/1/2013

Isn't he cute? My friend Amanda sent me a fun picture of a girl selling amigurumis at a convention. She had an adorable narwhal ami on her table! I wanted one, but found this tiny whale pattern instead!!!

Let me tell you that my fingers and wrists did not thank me for using a small size hook! But I still like him ;) I'm thinking of attaching him to a keychain!!

Until next time ^____^

I want these bunnies!!!!

No, really! I want all these bunnies to come home with me! I love the song, it's so sweet! And how can you resist dancing bunnies?

Until next time ^____^
